Everett's Boo Boo and the ER

Well it may have been bound to happen. Last night Everett had his first trip to the ER. It was around 7:30. Everett was toddling around, and when he reached for our marble windowsill, he didn't quite make it and face planted into the edge. I saw the whole thing happen and heard the loud thump. I gasped. Everett screamed. The rest was just a messy, bloody, blur. I immedietly tried to stop the blood with a washcloth, but he wasn't having it. I then called Eric at work and told him to come home right away. The whole time while I was waiting for Eric, I was debating on whether or not to take Ev to the ER. Everett wouldn't let me in his mouth, so I couldn't assess the damage. Once Eric got home, we decided it was best to go ahead and take him in. We knew we couldn't sleep that night without medical confirmation that he was going to be okay and didn't need any sutures. After 4 long hours, we finally got to see the doctor. By the way, the ER waiting room is a very strange place with very strange people. I won't go into detail, you can just imagine. The doctor checked Ev out and said she didn't want to do any suturing since his injury was inside his mouth. When she pulled back his upper lips though I was horrified. He had split his upper frenulum and his gums were hanging over his teeth. Thankfully though none of his four cute teeth came loose. That actually was my biggest concern. He also had a small gash on his chin and a bruise on his forehead. The doctor told us it would eventually heal itself and just to let him have popsicles and ice cream. Everett did not object! Finally around midnight we left the hospital with one extremely exhausted baby. When we got home Eric insisted that Everett have a bath because in Eric's words, "Yuck. He was in the ER. He needs to be sanitized!" Although it was very late, I thought it best as well. Finally around 1 Everett finally went to bed. I am thankful Everett is okay and I pray that is his last trip. Everett is so active, clumsy, loud, rough, and well....just a boy. I just didn't think his first real injury would happen so soon!
