Boys in Jammies

Everett and Hampton were both wearing footie jammies this morning and looking awful cute. Hampton looks so tiny next to big boy! Don't worry-extreme parental supervision was implented while getting this shot of Everett holding Hampton. I was holding my breath and Everett wasn't so sure what to think!

A Pirate's Life

While my mom was visiting she re-did the boy's bathroom. We ordered the decor from Pottery Barn Kids and I love it! Eric painted their vanity and did a superb job! They have a pirate theme. The decals on the wall ended up looking great.

I love the shower curtain and bathmat. Everett's baths have definitely been more exciting since the re-do. Thanks Nonny!

What a whirlwind week of emotions this has been. Our little Hampton has arrived! He has had a rough start to life, but as of Saturday is now home with us. Well let me back up.....Last Friday night my mom (who was visiting us for the week) and I had just been on a major shopping spree for the house. Eric and I had settled down to catch up on the latest episode of The Office. It was around midnight (I couldn't sleep) when suddenly my water broke. A gush! With Everett I had questioned if my water broke because it was more like a trickle. Not this time....it was very apparent I was going into labor. Eric ran and got my mom while I called my doctor. The contractions then came on incredibly strong and about 2 minutes apart. We quickly packed and got to the hospital as soon as possible. After I got set up my OB came in and checked to see how dilated I was. I was already 7 centimeters! This baby was coming and quick! I sort of panicked because I really wanted an epidural. The doctor came and put one in however it didn't take because my labor was going so fast. So basically, I was going to have to do this without drugs. My OB kept encouraging me that it would be quick. Also, another fun fact-I delivered Everett the day I turned 37 weeks and I delivered Hampton the day I turned 37 weeks! Isn't that bizarre!?! Anyways, my whole labor from the time my water broke to the time I delivered Hampton was about 2 hours and I pushed for a total of 10 minutes!

Isn't he handsome? I couldn't believe 2 hours prior I was at home watching television and now I was at the hospital with a brand new baby! Well as easy as the delivery was, the rest of the week turned out to be a different story. Sunday we found out the Hampton's hemotocrit level was dangerously high. Hematocrit is the ratio of your red blood cells. A normal hematocrit for an infant is around 40-55. Hampton's was at 78. This can be dangerous because it can cause something called "sludging" of the blood. In other words, his blood was incredibly thick. This can cause a number of problems including seizures, stroke, respiratory, and cardiac issues to name a few. Thankfully, Hampton was asymptomatic of any of these but the doctors had to be extremely cautious. He also had an elevated bilirubin level which can be dangerous as well. On Monday, the day we were supposed to discharge, it still had not gone down much so they rushed him to NICU. I forgot to mention that on Saturday Everett was very ill with a stomach virus and ended up in the ER himself. On Sunday evening Eric and my mom caught it and were very sick as well. Craziness I know.

One of his nurses found it so funny how he would get himself into these crazy positions. The treatment for his condition (called polycythemia) was increasing fluid intake through IV and photo therapy. We were thrilled to hear that by Thursday his hematocrit had decreased to 66. This meant he could continue photo therapy at home and be discharged from NICU. His bilirubin was still elevated however.

Eric loving on our boy-you can see that dreadful IV they had to put in his scalp! I was so happy on Friday when I took home a "wireless" baby! Every day this week we would visit the NICU about 3-4 times a day. Every time we would leave I would sob because I hated leaving him there. He was supposed to be at home with us! I am incredibly thankful though it was only a week. We had seen some families who had been there for months.

Everett meeting Hampton. This is probably one of the best moments of my life. Everett was thrilled to meet "baby." He just kept pointing at him and smiling at us. I pray they will be great pals.

Our family of four finally under one roof! We had a doctor's appointment yesterday and Hampton's hematocrit level was down to 50! He is now within normal limits. The doctor did not see it fluctuating. His bilirubin is still high, but as long as he continues to eat and get plenty of fluid intake, it will go down. He is still on the bili blanket, but we are hoping tomorrow's doctor's appointment will bring good news so he can get off of that. We aren't exactly sure why all of this happened (there weren't any of the risk factors present that would cause this) but we are so grateful to the Lord that he carried us through and that Hampton is thriving and healthy. He is still our little red hot tamale, but as his levels go down that should correct itself as well. The Lord is so generous to us and continues to teach us through all of the trials we have gone through these past few months. He continues to give me opportunities to work out my faith and rely on Him.

A Place to Play

We have been very busy the past few days, unpacking and such. We've worked really hard and I definitely think the house is coming together-I love it! When we were house hunting one of the things I desired the most was a finished basement to use as a playroom. Our house has a great basement with a fireplace (that is "hot" as Everett would say) and a space we are using as a family area and another space as an office. Last night we put together the play area and I really like it. It requires that Everett request specific toys and he can't play with all of them at once. My mom is coming here tomorrow and I am putting her to work! Hopefully Hampton doesn't come before the painting is complete, but the doctor seems to think any day now since I am already 3cm dilated. We shall see! God continues to overwhelm us with His graciousness.

A Big Day

Today was a very big day for the Williamsons. After nearly 6 years of doing the apartment thing and dreaming, we have purchased our first home! This morning we closed on our house and it could not have gone any smoother. These past three months have however been quite a journey-a journey of faith, prayer, and emotion....but the Lord is faithful! We are beyond ourselves with how the Lord continues to bless our family. Sometimes we do get overwhelmed by all the big life changes we are going through right now (moving, new job, about to have another baby, buying a house.....) but He has carried us through all of it! I nearly teared up at the closing today just reflecting on it all. We move all of our things on Saturday and then I am sure I will be very busy obesssing, I mean planning, where everything will go and unpacking. So, what this post lacks in pictures (I hate posting without pics) it is made up for with emotion!

While Dada Is Away

Eric has been gone the past three days on a business trip. So while he was gone I decided to document how Everett and I passed the time. On Tuesday we stayed in all day. Everett loves to sit in this container and call it his "car."

We colored...or I mostly colored while Everett put the crayons in and out of the box.

By the afternoon I was going a bit stir crazy. I really am working on trying to relax because I know our lives will soon become chaotic once again. Note the Elmo in the background in the picture below. Elmo has become Everett's new best friend. He got an Elmo movie last week and I think he has watched it every day since. There is just something about Elmo and I can't resist when Everett asks for "Elmo Bovie."

On Tuesday night I made pasta for dinner. Everett is getting so good with using utensils. It was kind of funny us dining just the two of us. I told him we were on a special "date."

My plan was for us to get out on Wednesday morning. I was so disappointed when I saw it was snowing.....again. I barely slept the night before so I really was itching to get out. Instead we played inside all morning. After nap the snow had cleared and we headed out to my refuge, my happy place.....Target! I didn't really have anything I needed to get, so we had fun just roaming the aisles.

A sweet lady who works here at Ridgecrest had given Everett a dollar, so we decided to buy a juice box.

Today was very fun. The weather was warm (43 degrees! ha!) so we went out again this morning. We went to Homegoods/TJ Maxx and found some very fun things. Everett even got a Sesame Street toy car as a special treat. We then went to Barnes and Noble to play with the "choo-choo" they have in the kids section.

We then went to Gymboree to pick out a layette for Hampton to wear home from the hospital. I haven't bought Hampton one thing this whole pregnancy, so that was really fun. Everett even said "Hanton" for the first time! Too cute!

We definitely missed Eric while he was gone. Everett has become very aware when he is away and many times would ask for "Dada." What a happy reunion it was tonight when he got home. He even brought a special treat...Jimmy Johns subs for dinner! We don't have one in our area so he picked some up on the way back today. He knows the way to this very pregnant girl's heart!

Funny Valentines

Although Eric's original Valentine's Day plans fell through, he came up with a great impromptu date! Well, we had the boy with us, but I'll still call it a date with both my boys. Eric surprised me with going to Greenville, SC (about an hour 15 min away) to go to Mimi's Cafe for lunch. I was so happy because I definitely had a hankerin for some fried pickles! Afterward, as an extra treat, we met some of our friends that live in the area for dessert. By that point we were well past Everett's nap and he was a little monster, but we still had a good time anyway. Overall, a very nice Valentine's Day. Next year, I will have three handsome guys to celebrate with!
